Why do you think the Jews missed the Messiah when He arrived?

The learned Rabbis and Jewish scholars, HUGE students of the Old Testament, waited 4000 years for the Messiah to come, and then missed Him when He did. I have my theories, but am looking for other ideas. Thanks!
