Celebrities ruining religion?

I've noticed that the Pratts (Heidi and Spencer) love to throw around the fact that they're born again Christians and yet they are probably some of the worst people I've ever seen. Mel Gibson also claimed to be Christian and yet was incredibly racist and ist. What do you think? Are Celebrities giving Christian's a bad name? If you're an atheist and saw this would you automatically hate that religion because of the hypocrisy of its followers?
